STEP CIVIL SOCIETY FORUM, 19 June 2009, Istanbul

Civil Society Forum which one is the first international and comparative civil society research of our country took placed in 19 June 2009 in Kadir Has University with support of Aydin Dogan Foundation, Kadir Has Foundation, Sabanci Foundation, Sabanci Foundation Grant Program and Vehbi Koc under the name of CIVICUS Civil Society Index (CSI) Project.  CSI is being carried out by Third Sector Foundation of Turkey simultaneously with 56 countries. Besides bringing out data about civil society, study process provides access of governance and basic rights, improvement of communication and cooperation facilities with its participatory and action-oriented structure.

150 civil organizations (60 from out of Istanbul), private sector, the public, representatives of academy and media participated in CSI. As a representative of Youth Association for Habitat, Yasin Sumer participated in the forum. In the opening , Third Sector Foundation Council member and President of Executive Council of Aydin Dogan Foundation, Candan Fetvaci mentioned that new survey methods would provide development of similar initiatives of civil society and CSI was  not only a survey but also an instrument that provide its' shareholders to participated actively at every step.
 
After the opening speech, project team informed about completed and ongoing part of the project and results of survey which was interviewed with 146 representatives of civil organization and 38 academies was represented with the data of results of 2005 in comparatively. After the presentation, participants asked their questions and indicated their opinions, suggestions about the first findings of projects.
